Cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly engaged in a light-hearted exchange on social media after India's impressive performance on the first day of the Test match against England at Headingley. Tendulkar celebrated the centuries scored by two young players, drawing parallels to the memorable innings from the 2002 Headingley Test, where he, Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid each scored over a hundred runs, leading India to a commanding victory.
In that historic match, India achieved a remarkable innings and 46 runs win. Ganguly humorously responded, suggesting that the current pitch is more favorable for batsmen compared to 2002, and hinted that four players might reach the century mark this time, naming Rishabh Pant and Karun Nair as potential candidates.
Tweets from Tendulkar and Ganguly
Tendulkar tweeted, "A solid foundation laid by @klrahul and @ybj_19 enabled India to have a good day. Congratulations to Yashasvi and @ShubmanGill for their brilliant centuries. @RishabhPant17’s contribution was equally important for the team. India’s batting today reminded me of the Headingley Test in 2002, when Rahul, @SGanguly99, and I scored hundreds in the first innings, and we went on to win the Test. Today, Yashasvi and Shubman have done their part. Who will be the third centurion this time?"
Hi Champ .. this time it could be 4 .. on this good surface .. pant and may be karun .. the surface on day 1 in 2002 .. was a bit different then this ..

Gill and Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten at 127 and 65 runs, respectively. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also scored a century, was dismissed by Ben Stokes just before lunch, leaving India at 92/2. The opening partnership between Jaiswal and KL Rahul was a solid 91 runs, but England made a comeback by taking two wickets in quick succession, including the debutant Sai Sudharsan, who was out for a duck.
